Mano Medeiros (PL), Mayor of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, was with the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and the head of the Regional Unit of the Northeast, Edilson Silva, on Monday (14) at the Ecoparque located in the municipality. The meeting took place at the invitation of the CEO of the Orizon Group, Milton Pilão.
The Mechanical Sorting Unit (UTM) for solid waste in Jaboatão is the largest in Latin America and processes 124 thousand tons of waste produced monthly in eight municipalities in the Metropolitan Region.
Luciana highlighted the Federal Government’s interest in the subject. Mano Medeiros emphasized the importance of the Ecopark.
“We have a very significant solid waste recycling project in the municipality. Every time I visit the Orizon Ecopark, I am inspired by how transformative it is. In addition to giving new life to thousands of tons of waste, the space has transformed many lives and greatly contributes to environmental preservation,” said Mayor Mano.
The Orizon Group is a national reference in the waste transformation industry and renewable energy generation, with 17 ecoparks in 12 Brazilian states. The Jaboatão plant covers 1.1 million m² and features a bioenergetic landfill with a biogas-powered energy plant.
All leachate is treated in an Effluent Treatment Station (ETE) using German technology for separating water and contaminating materials, enabling its reuse in street wetting and equipment cleaning activities.
