At the invitation of Orizon Group’s CEO, Milton Pilão, Mayor Mano Medeiros participated in a meeting with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and the head of the Regional Unit of Northeast, Edilson Silva, on Monday (14), at the Ecoparque located in the municipality. The Automated Sorting Unit (UTM) for solid waste in Jaboatão is the largest in Latin America and handles 124,000 tons of waste produced in eight municipalities in the Metropolitan Region per month.
The minister emphasized the Federal Government’s interest in the subject. Pilão, in turn, highlighted the challenge of further increasing waste recovery. “We have a very significant solid waste recycling operation in the municipality. And every time I visit Orizon’s Ecopark, I leave inspired by how transformative it is. In addition to giving new life to thousands of tons of waste, the space has transformed many lives and greatly contributes to environmental preservation,” declared Mayor Mano.
Orizon Group is a national reference in the waste transformation industry and renewable energy generation, operating 17 ecoparks in 12 Brazilian states. The Jaboatão plant covers 1.1 million square meters and includes a bioenergy landfill, with a biogas-powered energy plant. All leachate is treated in a Wastewater Treatment Station (ETE) that uses German technology to separate water and contaminants, allowing for reuse in activities such as street humidification and equipment cleaning.
