On the afternoon of Wednesday (16), the Sustainable Siririzinho Project was officially launched in Rosário do Catete. The ceremony took place at Municipal School Professor Ernestina Silva, in the Siririzinho village, and was attended by local authorities, the school community, and partners. The initiative aims to reuse cooking oil to produce soap, a practice that reduces pollution and prevents improper disposal of oil, which is harmful to the environment.
The project, supported by the Orizon Social Institute through the Sustainable Community Challenge, aims to promote sustainability through innovative and responsible practices. Since its inception, the project has sought to minimize environmental impacts and foster sustainable development.
According to a student’s mother, Mrs. Marta Barroso, who contributed to the project’s creation, the Sustainable Siririzinho Project was approved in the first half of the year. “Initially, we began presenting the project to stakeholders and multipliers for the official launch. There are six stages, which will be developed until January 2025. This initiative, in addition to being an ecological alternative, also creates income opportunities for small entrepreneurs, boosting the economy. The expectation is that after the project is completed, a cooperative with the students’ mothers will be established,” said Mrs. Marta Barroso.
The Sustainable Siririzinho Project reinforces the commitment of the Rosário do Catete City Hall, which supports sustainability and environmental education initiatives within the Municipal Public Network.
