The National Solid Waste Policy, Law No. 12,305 of 2010, set August 2, 2024, as the deadline for the eradication of dumps in Brazil.
The Orizon group manages 17 sanitary landfills across 12 states. Nine of these sites, known as Ecoparks, include waste recovery structures comprising sorting stations and processing facilities for recyclable materials destined for industrialization, biomass production stations for the cement industry, crushed material for construction, and green fertilizer produced from sludge. The group also operates five plants for biogas transformation captured from the landfills into electricity, and one plant purifying biogas to produce biomethane. Ancillary revenues account for approximately 35% to 40% of Orizon’s income. “Our plan is to transform all our landfills into fully operational Ecoparks in the coming years and to increase ancillary revenues,” says Milton Pilão, CEO of Orizon.
